The Ekstrem chair is one of the most idiosyncratic designs in Norwegian design history. The chair was designed by the Norwegian designer Terje Ekstrøm (1944–2013). Although the design originated in 1972, the Ekstrem was not actually put into production until 1984.

With its sculptural form, the Ekstrem deviates strongly from the traditional Scandinavian chair. While Scandinavian design is often associated with understated shapes and natural materials, Ekstrøm opted for a bold and almost futuristic design.

The unique shape is not, however, just intended to be an eye-catcher. Movement and freedom in sitting are central. The chair invites you to constantly assume a different position: upright, sideways, backwards, or with your legs over an armrest. The Ekstrem therefore supports different ways of sitting rather than one fixed seating position.

The construction consists of two identical steel frames placed opposite each other, which are covered with foam and provided with an elastic, knitted upholstery. This creates the chair's characteristic open structure.

It is precisely the combination of functionality and sculptural form that makes the Ekstrem so special. It is a chair that does not try to blend into its surroundings, but emphatically becomes part of them as a design object.

This chair is executed in anthracite and is in very good condition. The fabric has no holes.
